The investment round also includes funding from Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Garage Technology Ventures, the Mahindra Group, as well as leading social enterprise funds Acument Fund and Gray Matters Capital. We are pleased that we have been able to maintain our partnership with all of our major investors from the Seed Funding investment round, and believe that this additional support is a strong vote of confidence in the work of D.light. D.light Partners with the Clinton Global Initiative

We are pleased to announce that the Clinton Global Initiative has selected D.light Design to partner with them in their annual My Commitment project. Each year, the My Commitment project brings together visionary, high-impact solutions with individual and organizational donors willing to provide the necessary funding.

The CGI My Commitment project this year features a Call to Action on Haiti, which has been devastated by recent hurricanes and tropical storms. D.light has proposed that, with one million dollars in funding, we will be able to provide 40,000 households with life-changing light. For adults and children struggling to rebuild their lives and their communities, bright and dependable light is a critical component to ensuring safety, health, and hope.

Other proposed projects include rebuilding homes, planting trees, promoting education, providing health services, and providing microfinance loans. Please visit the My Commitment project website to read about D.light and other worthy projects. Help us spread the news to individuals who may be interested in donating!

The China Office Has Moved!

Less than five months after establishing our office in Shenzhen, China, we have already outgrown it! With about 15 staff in the China office, we moved down nine floors in the same office building to an office that is nearly double the size as our original office. We now have more extensive engineering and testing spaces, as well as storage space and additional room to grow. Our phone numbers are the same, but you can visit our website to see our new address.

Thank You, Gabe!

It is with sadness that we share that Gabriel Risk, our CTO and a co-founder, has officially stepped down from his full-time position with D.light. Gabe has played a critical role in the development of all of our products, including designing circuits, developing special features, and managing factories in China. We couldn't have done it without his expertise, skills, and commitment! Luckily for us, Gabe will continue to support D.light as a part-time consultant, so we will be able to benefit further from his knowledge. We wish Gabe and his wife Diana all the best in their next steps!

Featured Customer Story: Bijendar Singh (India)

Mr. Bijendar Singh lives in the village of Navrangpur, Uttar Pradesh, with his wife and five children, who range in age from 7 to 18. Mr. Singh works in Irrigation Service and his family uses as much as half a liter of kerosene per day. They were given a solar Comet and a solar Nova to test, and reported significant changes in their day-to-day experience, including immediate cost savings from no longer having to regularly purchase kerosene oil. According to his children:

"We used to study using the kerosene lamp and the light from the lamp was very dim. The D.light Comet gives off a brighter light. In fact, one D.light Comet provides enough light for all of us as we sit on our beds and study together.... When we were using kerosene lamps to study, our eyes were tearing because of the smoke. That bad experience has stopped completely because of the D.light Comet. We used to get beaten by the teachers because we were not able to study, but not anymore!

"With the kerosene lamp, we were able to study for 1.5 hours. Now we are able to study 3 to 5 hours [every night]."
