Donn Tice, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer

As a d.light adviser since March 2008, a director since November 2008, and chairman since 2010, Donn brings 30 years of experience in consumer products, clean technology, and global distribution. He has built $100+ million global businesses and raised $100 million in capital. His passion for base-of-the-pyramid consumers began as a United Nations Fellow, when Donn was mentored by the late C.K. Prahalad. As founder of Sustainable Solutions (2006-2010), Donn accelerated consumer venture, capital-backed portfolio companies. While CEO of start-up Nano-Tex (2003-2006), his team expanded distribution to 90 brands in 30 countries through 100 distribution partners, creating a 25x valuation increase. As CEO of Winterland (1997–2002), Donn grew sales 3.5x, from $30 million to $110 million.

Al Wood, Chief Finance Officer

Al holds BA and MBA degrees and is a Certified Public Accountant. Al spent over a decade with the US Treasury and leading global public accounting firms Arthur Young and Arthur Andersen, based in London, Paris, Brussels, Washington D.C. and the San Francisco Bay Area. After several years of operating experience in Silicon Valley technology companies, Al led the spinout and 2003 IPO of mobile device operating system company PalmSource. Al was later recruited to Veraz Networks, a telecom equipment manufacturer selling throughout the developing world including Africa, Latin America, and India. He led Veraz’s successful 2007 IPO, and later merged it with larger Dialogic,serving as CFO of the combined companies.

Sam Goldman, Chief Customer Officer & Founder

Sam co-founded d.light in 2007 and served as the company’s founding CEO. During his tenure as CEO, he raised over $11 million in funding, started the India sales and marketing division, and oversaw multiple launches of products, including the award-winning S250 and S10. Sam has been selected as an Ashoka Fellow and World Economic Forum Young Global Leader; he was also recognized by Forbes as one of the world’s top 30 social entrepreneurs. Prior to d.light, he founded and managed multiple ventures in Africa, including improved agriculture and construction businesses, a for-profit NGO cultivating the miracle tree Moringa oleifera, and the distribution of low-cost latrines, cook stoves and rain water catchment cisterns. Sam has lived in Cameroon, Mauritania, Pakistan, Peru, India, Rwanda, Canada, Hong Kong, and the United States. After graduating with degrees in Biology and Environmental Studies from the University of Victoria, Canada, he earned an MBA from Stanford.

Ned Tozun, President & Founder

Ned co-founded d.light in 2007 and has served as its President since then. Ned partnered with Sam to secure private investment for the company, built up the manufacturing operations, and oversaw the expansion of distribution into over 40 countries. Ned has been recognized by Forbes as one of the world’s top 30 social entrepreneurs and was selected as an Asia 21 Young Leader by the Asia Society. Prior to d.light, Ned founded several consumer product start-ups in Silicon Valley. His most recent position was as CEO and founder of a media technology company, where he designed and patented technology used to develop several products launched in the mobile content and specialty gift markets in the United States, Europe, and Japan. Ned graduated from Stanford with degrees in Computer Science and Earth Systems, and returned to Stanford to earn his MBA.

David Small, Managing Director Africa

David has 18 years experience as a fast-moving consumer goods general manager for Colgate Palmolive in countries in Southern and Eastern Africa, the Middle East, and most recently Russia, with total profit and loss responsibility and accountability. He has extensive experience in growing businesses and developing teams.

Jaideep Mukherji, Managing Director Asia

Jaideep brings 28 years of experience and a strong track record in building teams and growing new categories in emerging markets. He spent the past 14 years with McCain Foods India, starting from his home, as the first employee and Country Manager, he pioneered the development of the frozen food market in India and the Indian subcontinent. Jaideep scripted and executed the sales, marketing and operations strategy and built the team from one to 250 people, which established McCain as the brand leader in the category with over 75% share. During the last two years at McCain he led the Integrated Supply Chain for Asia. Jaideep started his career with Shaw Wallace & Co Ltd, as a Management Trainee and progressively grew over 14 years to General Manager of Consumer Business. Jaideep is a Chemical Engineering graduate of the prestigious IIT.

Tim Rump, Director of Marketing, Africa

Prior to joining d.light, Tim worked for Unilever for 21 years. Eighteen of these years were spent working in Africa and the Middle East, with postings in Oman, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, and Egypt. Tim’s expertise is in marketing, and he served as marketing director and board member for Unilever, operating companies during his three most recent postings. In this capacity he developed a deep understanding of African consumers, African media, and the complexities of building brands and businesses in developing economies.

Michael Hudson, Vice President of Product Development

Michael brings in three decades of deep technical experience in creative hardware and software, and a proven ability to design high quality, affordable, consumer products. He has a long history of bringing technical consumer innovations to market, such as the world’s first MP3 player (the Rio) and some of Intel’s first motherboards (PC-386), and many affordable semiconductor products in the audio, media distribution and consumer electronics industries. Michael also is a very accomplished executive leader, having worked as CTO of a NASDAQ company (Diamond multimedia), while also founding and working as CTO or VP of R&D of various pre and post revenue start-ups.

Alexander Baumgardt, Vice President of Global Design

Alexander is an award-winning designer and teacher with over 15 years of experience in creating integrated brand, product, and service experiences. Heavily influenced by systems thinking & design, he has built up a unique portfolio at the intersection of visual communication and human-centered design practices, deeply rooted in collaboration. A MetaDesign and Method alumn, Alexander has lead projects for renowned brands such as Audi, Bosch, Deutsche Telekom, Samsung, Siemens and Volkswagen. Prior to joining d.light he has worked with General Electric, Silicon Valley Bank and Alexander teaches the pioneering Experience Design studio classes in both the Design Strategy (MBA) and Interaction Design (BFA) programs at California College of the Arts (CCA) in San Francisco; and lectured at leading design organizations and events including the Google Speaker Series, Xerox PARC lecture series, ENSAD Paris, MX Managing Experience Conference and NEXT Service Design Conference.

Jenny Li, Vice President of Global Operations

Jenny is a senior Chinese P&L executive with wide global perspective and deep operations experience in leading large, complex operations and building high-performing teams globally and in China.  Since graduating from Tsing Hua University in Beijing Jenny has spent over 20 years with three US Fortune 500 companies, all leaders in their markets:  Xerox, Delphi, and SPX.  After five years with Xerox as a quality engineer, buyer and supplier development manager, Jenny joined Delphi in purchasing and sourcing.  She spent five years as a Delphi plant manager, including a unionized auto parts factory in Warren, Ohio (USA).  She was then assigned to challenging manufacturing plants in rural northern China where it was hard to recruit qualified managerial talent. Jenny developed and mentored her team, enabling them to grow into the leadership her business needed to be successful.  Jenny has spent the last 10 years as an Managing Director and General Manager, running the Chinese business units for large US-based Fortune 500 multinationals Delphi and SPX.  Jenny is a great leader, communicator, and an accomplished professional.

Sateesh Kumar, Managing Director, Global Consumer Finance

Sateesh has 25 years of experience in varied industries including microfinance, insurance and retail in South Asia and Asia Pacific regions. Building sustainable and progressive businesses through a strong combination of sales, operations and strategic orientation is his forte. During the last three years as Executive VP, Operations at SKS Microfinance Ltd, Sateesh managed large teams and also established the SKS brand with external stakeholders. Earlier as CEO of Royal Sporting House, he developed the retail distribution business of sporting goods and as the Regional Director of Aviva Life Insurance, he increased the Bancassurance and business partnerships multi-fold. Sateesh has international experience with an eight year-stint in Singapore in retail and international trading.
